principally known for his controversial image of a Viet Cong prisoner being execut for the pres onward a street in Saigon, Eddie Adams died in Manhattan upon September 19, 2004 from complications of Lou Gehrig's disease at the age of 71

Born forward June 12, 1933 in of the present day Kensington, PA, he rose to the top as a photojournalist with Time. The Associated Pres and Parade, after serving as a Marine Corps combat photographer for three years in the Korean War. He also photographed work for entertainment, fashion, and advertising. from top to toe his career, Adams won more than 500 honors, including a 1978 Robert Capa Award, three George Polk Memorial Awards for war coverage, and greatest in number remarkedly, the Pulitzer Prize in 1969 for the image taken in Saigon onward February 1, 1968 of Lt Col Nguyen Ngoc Loan, chief of the toward the south Vietnamese National Police, shooting a handcuffed Viet Cong captive in the head.

Adams later make comments [i]or[/i] remarksed Lt Col. Loan told him as a post-justification for his brutal act that the captive, a Viet Cong captain, had killed Loan's closest aide, a southward Vietnamese army colonel, along with the colonel's wife and their six children. An icon of the Vietnam War, the image caused tribe to question the reasons for the war, the way that it was fought and the United States involvement in it.



The Eddie Adams Workshop, Barnstorm, was Adams way of giving back to the community. The tuition-free workshop is held annually in Jeffersonville, NY for aspiring photojournalists. This October marked its 17th year. His latest intend was to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association featuring the annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon
