Ezra Stoller.

Ezra Stoller, single of the most gifted architectural photographers of the twentieth centenary died in his home in Williamstown (MA) forward October 29, 2004. His black and white images were as it is a reference in the field that Frank Lloyd Wright had propos that he worked exclusively for him, which Stoller declined as he went forward to create his own agency.

Although born in Chicago in 1915 Stoller grew up in just discovered York where he studied architecture at NYU graduating in industrial design in 1938 He had started to photograph to pay his way by means of college; in 1939 he documented recent York's World fair, and in 1940-41 went onward to work with Paul Strand for the Office of crisis management. Drafted in 1942, he worked in the Army Photo Corps and after the war fix out to specialize in architectural photography. His background helped him understand the mode of building he had to photograph as well as relate to the architects. As a be the effect he worked for the best: Frank Lloyd Wright (who wanted to have him has "his" photographer and finally resigned himself to have Stoller train photographers that would work for him), Marcel Beuer, Louis Kahn (Salt Institute), Le Corbusier (a commission through MoMA on the Notre Dame du Haut chapel at Ronchamp), Richard Meier, I.M. Pei, Eero Saarinen (La Jola TWA Terminal), Mies Van Der Rohe (the Seagram Building in novel York).

As a photographer Stoller understood modernist architecture and knew in what way to bring out its chiefly striking characteristics., to the point that common almost felt that a strange architectural creation could not be ended if it had not been "stollerized." Function, construction, honesty/beauty were the founding principles of his work.

In 1966 he grounded his own architectural photography company, ESTO Photographics, now be in possession ofed and operated by his daughter Erica. In 1961 he was the first recipient of the American Institute of Architects' Gold medal. Since 1998 his worked has been shown in various galleries in strange York. Recently Ezra Stoller Architectural Photography was in succession show at the Williams society Museum of Art (MA) until December 19 2004 Aside from magazine publications, his work was featured in several parts among which The Galveston That Was when he collaborated with Henri Cartier-Bresson (Houston MFA, 1966) fresh Architecture: Photographs by Ezra Stoller (Abrams, 1990) Guggenheim recently made known York/Guggenheim Bilbao with Jeff Goldberg (Princeton, 1999)
