The book features famous photobooks in the same state [i]or[/i] condition as Robert Frank's The Americans, as well as less known works including Kikuji Kawanda's The Map. The first of pair volumes, the book begins with the earliest examples of the genre from the nineteenth hundred with titles such as Henry Fox Talbot's The Pencil of Nature and leads readers by means of propaganda books beginning in the 1930 and ending with the radical Japanese photobooks of the 1960 and 70 Many of the main division s featured are from the personal collection of Magnum photographer and co-editor Parr. The main division offers the medium as a three-dimensional external reality featuring covers, slipcases and spreads as part of throughout 200 color reproductions.
