WATER BEING WATER

by means of David Goldes. Wright State University Art Galleries/51 pp/$2500 (sb)

This exhibition catalog begins with a adduce from Gertrude Stein: "What is it that water does do?" This is a question that could be asked of a scientist or an artist, on the other hand it this case the bodily form who answers is both. Golde who has a rank in Molecular Genetics from Harvard and an MFA in photography from SUNY Buffalo, photographs water in a way that affords the compound as only a photograph can. For example, Golde portrays the roundnes of water according to visually enhancing the curve of the cusp with high contrast light, producing an unfamiliar image of a excessively familiar substance. Water Being Water, published in conjunction with the exhibition "Art/Science," also features essays according to photographer Vince Leo and science writer Phillip Ball, as well as an introduction by way of curator Ron Geibert.
