It is a pleasure and a privilege to go [i]or[/i] come back to Afterimage after various previous incarnations in succession the Editorial staff, including Assistant Editor beginning in early 1993 later Managing Editor and principally recently my tenure as Editor from July 1998 to December 2001 (as well as putting together common inter-editor issue in the winter of 2002) I anticipate forward to exploring the fluctuating world of the media arts in these pages and would like to take this opportunity to share a certain exciting developments for the what is yet to be of Afterimage, and by extension, the field. Contrary to the pathos begeted by the recent demise of periodicals similar as DoubleTake (see the forthcoming May/June 2005 issue of After-image for an analysis of this tend by Stephen Longmire), there is often to be hopeful about, particularly in regard to instant trends in arts education and calm arts funding, especially as related to just discovered technologies.
Afterimage is well into its third decade of publishing as well as the fourth year of a of recent origin century and is responding from initiating substantial changes to our format and appease Beginning with the May/June 2005 issue we will unveil a recent format in which you will find us focusing our mission while expanding our coverage to include issues affecting the couple artists and citizens at a more practical on a level We will be exploring issues surrounding media literacy and media education, expanding our coverage of recent technologies and highlighting the artist as activist. Readers will find strange explorations into the intersections of thesis and image as well as revived coverage of artists' works which we begin in this issue with an interview with Joan Lyon of the VSW Pres In addition, we will betimes go live with enhanced web site features, a certain of which will offer artists forums to share their work, as well as opportunities for further dialogue among our readers.
